Our 17th Annual Golf Tournament was a smashing success, thanks to a dream team of volunteers, an all-star venue, and weather that clearly got the memo. Not a cloud in the sky, not a divot in sight. It was the kind of day that makes a Jewish guy almost believe golf gods do exist – and they like bagels.
The day kicked off with a breakfast feast fit for champions (and those of us just here for the snacks). With bellies full and spirits high, players hit the course in pursuit of glory – or at least a good excuse to take the day off.
We took a moment to honor Andy Fandel (pictured below), a man who’s been a key contributor helping us drive this tournament forward for over 14 years. Andy’s dedication has kept the wheels turning, the teams lined up, and the data on par.
As for the competition? The winning team clocked in at 14 under par. Clearly, they’ve been sleeping with their golf clubs. Their MVP? Mike Gardener, who apparently brought a rocket launcher instead of a driver. Word is he was landing shots within feet of the pin so often, the flagstick started feeling nervous.
At the other end of the leaderboard, our last-place team walked away with a pickleball set, because hey, every end is a new beginning. Maybe a smaller court and lighter ball will bring better luck.
Lunch was brought to all by The Brotherhood of Temple Israel of Sharon, who rolled out a Kosher deli spread that could feed a small army (and definitely did). Everyone left full, some left stuffed, and the true fressers needed a nap before raffle time.
Speaking of raffles: we had a treasure trove of prizes, including top-tier golf gear and coveted foursomes. If someone didn’t win, they won’t worry – there’s always next year (and yes, we do accept bribes in the form of pastrami sandwiches).
All in all, it was a day to remember. We’re already counting down to the magical 18th Annual Chai Tournament next year. More laughs, more swings, and maybe, just maybe, fewer mulligans.
Until then, all of us will keep practicing. Or at least keep showing up!
